Why DocPin

Why not just attach the file?

An HTML file is a web page that hasn't been put on the web yet. Attaching it or dropping it in a shared drive leaves that job to your reader.

An attachment is a download

Your reader has to save it and open it from their downloads. On a phone it often won't open at all, and images or scripts next to it go missing.

Shared drives show the code

Most file shares preview an .html file as text, or ask people to download it, instead of showing the page.

Web hosting is a whole setup

Hosts built for websites want an account, a deploy and usually a public site. DocPin is for the single pages you send people.

Questions

DocPin for HTML files, answered

What can I upload?

One .html file, several files, a folder or a .zip, up to 25 MB and 1,000 files. A .zip needs an index.html at the top level or inside a single folder. If there's no index.html but exactly one .html file, that one opens.

Does JavaScript work?

Yes. Each page runs as a normal web page on its own address, so scripts, CDN libraries, fonts and calls to your own APIs work. Pages can't read your DocPin account or other pages.

How do I update a page?

Open the page in DocPin and upload the new file as a new version. The link stays the same and every earlier version is kept, so you can restore one any time.

Can I publish without the app?

Yes. Publish from Claude or ChatGPT by asking, or from the command line and CI with an API key.

What does it cost?

DocPin is free for 3 pages, with a small DocPin badge. Pro is $8 a month for unlimited pages, your own domain, passwords and people-only pages.
