What does "Publish artifact" mean in Claude?
Short answer: Publish is the sharing button on Claude's legacy artifacts, the ones made in a chat before 16 September 2026. It gives the artifact a public link that anyone can open. Artifacts made since then start private, and you share them from the Share button instead: just you, anyone with the link, or people you invite by email.
Legacy artifacts
Publish- One public link anyone can open
- Embed on other sites
- Unpublish is final
New artifacts
Share- Start private to you
- Link, email invites or your organization
- Updates keep the same link
Why a claude.ai link can put clients off
Claude's sharing is built for working with people who use Claude. Sending a client a claude.ai link is different, and it can look unprofessional or even a bit suspicious:
- It doesn't look like it came from you. The address says claude.ai, followed by a long random ID. Nothing in it names your business or what the page is.
- Outsiders see a warning instead of your name. Claude's own docs say that anyone opening a public link from outside your organization sees the label "Content is user-generated and unverified." in place of the author.
- It reads like a link people are told not to click. An unfamiliar address with a random string is exactly what security training tells your client's team to be wary of.
- It tells them you used AI. That may be fine, but it should be your choice.
Try it: pick a link and see what your client gets.

The warning label is the one Claude's docs say outside viewers of a public link see in place of your name.
With DocPin, the link is your workspace name plus a name you choose for the page, or your own domain on Pro. The page shows your work with no Claude branding or warning around it. You can rename a page later and the old link keeps working, so a link you've already sent never breaks.
Legacy artifacts: the Publish button
If you're looking at an artifact from an older chat, Publish works like this:
- It creates a public link. Anyone with it can view and use the artifact without a Claude account. Signed-in Claude users can save their own copy.
- You can embed it on other sites, limited to the domains you allow.
- Unpublish is final. It turns the link off, you can't publish that same artifact again, and any data the artifact stored is permanently deleted.
On Team and Enterprise plans, legacy artifacts use Share & copy link instead, which opens for people in your organization who are signed in.
New artifacts: the Share button
Artifacts made since 16 September 2026, in a chat, from Claude's templates or in Claude Code, start private to you. Click Share to choose who can open one:
- Pro, Max and Ultra: only you, or anyone with the link. You can also invite specific people by email, which is in beta.
- Team and Enterprise: only people you invite, everyone in your organization, or anyone with the link if an owner has allowed outside sharing.
- Roles: people can view, comment or edit, depending on the artifact type.
- Updates keep the link. When Claude revises an artifact, it publishes a new version at the same address.
- Who needs an account: most artifacts shared by link open without one. People you invite by email sign in to Claude with that address, and you can invite up to 50 people from outside your organization per artifact.

How to put a Claude artifact on your own link
- Connect DocPin to Claude once. In Claude, open Customize → Connectors, add DocPin as a custom connector, and sign in. It takes about a minute.
- Ask Claude to publish it. In any chat, say "publish this to DocPin". The page goes live at your workspace link straight away, and Claude replies with the link.
- Choose who can open it. Say "only people at acme.com can open it", or set a password or a list of people in DocPin. Changing it never changes the link.
- Add your domain (Pro). Point docs.yourcompany.com at DocPin and every page is served from there. Many DNS providers can do it in one click.
acme.docpin.it/sales-proposalTo change the page later, keep chatting with Claude and say "update it". The link stays the same, and every earlier version is kept. See how DocPin works with Claude.
